The New Zealander is fighting for this year’s title only 12 points behind his teammate, the also New Zealander, Nick Cassidy.

Portland, Oregon. USA. June 29th 2024.

With two races to go of Season 10, the fight for the world title by the teammates not only brings closer the Jaguar TCS Racing’s victory in the team championship, but also promises to give New Zealand their first single-seater world championship title since Denny Hulme’s victory back in the 1967 Formula 1 championship.

This weekend, during the Portland E-Prix double feature, Mitch Evans (currently second place in the FIA Formula E World Championship) talked about the hope of bringing this joy to his country:

“Amazing, pretty big thing for us, obviously between Nick (Cassidy) and I, if any of us could get it done, that would be amazing. We’re from Auckland but, I think, to get that for New Zealand would be very special for our little country in the middle of nowhere so… Yeah, we got a bit of work to do before now and then but it would mean a lot for sure.”

Mitch was teased with the idea of a haka celebration if either him or Nick gets the title at the end of the season:

“Yeah, I mean, I’m part maori so I should be out to do it. I can do it but, haven’t tried since school. Maybe after a few drinks… But I think, you know, if one of us can win it, that can start getting momentum for racing down in Auckland… That would be amazing.”

Nick Cassidy leads the championship followed by Mitch Evans, Pascal Wehrlein, Antonio Félix Da Costa and Oliver Rowland; all of them mathematically still able to turn the numbers in their favor and achieve the feat of becoming the 2024 world champion.

The team championship will most likely be lifted by either Jaguar TCS Racing (current leader) and TAG Heuer Porsche (second place), but all of this will be defined and sealed at the FIA Formula E World Championship Season 10 Finale taking place next July 20 & 21 at the ExCeL in London, England.
